About the Nikah Ceremony

What is a nikah? A nikah is the Islamic marriage contract and ceremony that unites two individuals in a sacred, legally and spiritually recognized bond. It is one of the most significant events in a Muslim's life and is performed in accordance with Islamic law.

What is included in a nikah ceremony? A standard nikah ceremony includes the nikah khutbah (sermon), the eejab and qubool (offer and acceptance), and the presence of witnesses. Depending on the package selected, additional services such as an extended talk, official marriage certificate signing, and provision of witnesses may also be included.

How long does a nikah ceremony take? A basic nikah ceremony typically takes 30 to 45 minutes. With an extended talk and additional formalities, the ceremony may last up to an hour.

Can you officiate a nikah at any venue? Yes. Sheikh Ahsen Waseem travels to your preferred venue — whether that is a masjid, banquet hall, home, outdoor garden, or any other location in the Chicago and Chicagoland area.

Can you officiate a nikah at a home wedding? Absolutely. Home weddings are a beautiful and intimate setting for a nikah ceremony and are fully accommodated. A travel fee may apply depending on your location.

Do you provide witnesses? Yes. Witness provision is available as an add-on service for $100 or is included in select packages. Islamic law requires a minimum of two adult Muslim male witnesses for the nikah to be valid.

Can you sign the official marriage certificate? Yes. Sheikh Ahsen Waseem is able to sign official civil marriage certificates as an authorized officiant. This service is available as an add-on or included in select packages.

Do you officiate nikahs for non-Arabic speaking couples? Yes. The ceremony can be conducted in English with the necessary Arabic components included, ensuring the nikah is both meaningful and accessible for all couples regardless of their Arabic proficiency.

Do you travel outside of Chicago? Yes. Sheikh Ahsen Waseem serves the greater Chicagoland area including Cook, DuPage, Kane, and Will Counties. A travel fee of $50–$75 applies for locations beyond 20 miles from Glendale Heights, IL.

Islamic Premarital Guidance

What is Islamic premarital guidance? Islamic premarital guidance is a structured series of one-on-one sessions with Sheikh Ahsen Waseem designed to help couples build a strong, faith-centered foundation before marriage. Sessions cover Islamic principles of marriage, communication, conflict resolution, family dynamics, finances, and more.

Is premarital guidance required to book a nikah? No. Premarital guidance is optional but strongly encouraged. Couples who complete the 3-session package prior to their nikah receive $50 off any nikah package.

How long is each session? Each session is approximately 60 minutes and can be conducted in person or virtually.

How many sessions do you recommend? The 3-session package is recommended for most couples as it covers all the essential topics needed to enter marriage prepared and aligned. A single standalone session is also available for couples who have already completed counseling elsewhere or who want to focus on a specific topic.

Are sessions conducted in person or online? Both options are available. Sessions can be held in person in the Chicago area or virtually via video call — whichever is most convenient for you.

How is Islamic premarital guidance different from regular marriage counseling? Islamic premarital guidance is faith-based and rooted in Quran and Sunnah. It is not therapy or licensed counseling but rather structured guidance from an experienced Islamic officiant designed to prepare couples spiritually, emotionally, and practically for married life.
